About Maria Yaylagul
I am a Mental Health Counselor with a deep passion for understanding human behavior and supporting others on their personal journeys toward healing and growth. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and double minor in Sociology & Anthropology from the University of Connecticut and a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Iona University. My academic background laid the foundation for a lifelong curiosity about how we interact with ourselves, others, and the environments we live in.
I approach therapy with empathy, nonjudgment, and a genuine desire to help people better understand their inner worlds. I believe that our past experiences shape how we move through the world today, and part of the therapeutic process involves uncovering those patterns—both conscious and unconscious—that influence our emotions, relationships, and choices.
As a Middle Eastern American, I also understand the importance of cultural awareness and strive to create a safe and inclusive space for people from all backgrounds. I am mindful of the unique challenges that cultural identity can present, and I value the diverse ways that individuals make meaning of their experiences.
Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, relationship issues, life transitions, or simply looking for a space to feel seen and heard, my goal is to meet you where you are with compassion and curiosity. I believe that change is possible when we feel supported, understood, and empowered—and I am honored to be part of that process with my clients.
