About Zachary Barnes

Zachary Barnes is a fully licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Connecticut and is currently an AAMFT Approved Supervisor Candidate under the mentorship of Dr. Marcos Rosa. Zach is trained in TF-CBT (currently completing the certification process) and is also currently receiving training in EMDR for use with traumatized adults and children. Zach specializes in working with teenagers/adolescents and children (7 years old and up) and their families on attachment issues, trauma, differentiation, and identity issues; he enjoys working collaboratively and conjointly with clients’ families to create lasting systemic changes, increase caregiver support, and increase familial support for his clients. Zach also particularly enjoys working with emerging adults (18-30 year olds), people navigating major life transitions (divorce, new baby, family medical issues, employment/career changes, etc.), and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, especially those dealing with religious, cultural, or familial trauma. He also enjoys working with couples. Zach utilizes a client-centered, integrative, trauma-informed, and collaborative approach with his clients, drawing from a variety of therapeutic approaches and evidenced-based practices, including: Narrative Therapy, IFS, EMDR, TF-CBT, EFT, and Structural Family Therapy. 

Zach holds his MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Iona University and his undergraduate degrees (BFA in Musical Theatre and BM in Vocal Performance) from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Zach hails from Southern California and his happiest place is the beach. He loves time with friends, learning, anything Arts-related, and helping/watching people grow, self-reflect, heal, and change. He lived and worked in NYC for over a decade in the hospitality industry and as a performing artist and now resides in Fairfield County, CT.
